Help identifying a programme

Hi all,
I don't know if this should be here or in the TV section so moderators, please move if needed.

I need help identifying a prog I watched as a kid in the 80's. (It was a UK prog, by the way.)

It was on BBC2 (I think), and the opening credits had very distinctive music. The credits featured a small music/jewelery box that was red with gold trimmings. I think there was a mirror and it revolved.

The prog itself, if I remember correctly, was stories read out by an older man. They were quite strange.

Anyone any clue what I'm talking about?

"Here is a box... a musical box... wound up, and ready to play! Can you guess what is in it today?"

Trumpton, I'll warrant.

Gah, I totally know the prog you mean but can't remember its name. The guy at the beginning didn't read stories but introduced short films, I think. I'll have a butchers at TV Cream... back in a bit.

Cheers, Saveloy.

Sax, wasn't Trumpton the animated thing about the firemen?

Wasn't it just called 'The Music Box'?

From tv.cream.org:

PICTURE BOX (early '70s-'80s)
ITV

STRAIGHTFORWARD ASSORTMENT of films from around the world presented by friendly-but-dull ALAN ROTHWELL (catchphrase : "Hello!") Cartoon of Dr. Philip Square tunnelling into the Earth's core and propelling himself back again via the evaporated piss of his pet dog was the best.

Meant to say, you can download the lovely organ-pipey theme from tv.cream.org. Just find Picture Box in the 'P' section, there's a button to download it above the description.

That'll be a "no" then.

Trumpton was the firemen. Or maybe that was Camberwick Green. Both effectively the same programme, anyway.

But I've just been told that each episode of Trumpton featured a character emerging from a music box!! Gah!!

Saveloy, Ive downloaded the opening titles to the The Picture Box and I don't think that's it. Thanks, though!

Ok, it was Camberwick Green that had the music box, and I've seen it and it's not the one I'm thinking of.

Goddammit.
