like ive gotten stuck in my magickal workings. I guess that's the way it should be...
I'd hazard a guess that what you're experiencing is something pretty natural to all creative pursuits that require dedicated and prolonged work, and not just magick. As soon as you reach a point where you've achieved a level of technical expertise or have started to feel comfortable with what you're doing, you can fall quite easy into a bit of a rut, the work can start to feel like less of an exploration/adventure and more like a habit, and the only way out of this is to shake things up again. Do something different, explore an area where you get that 'out of your depth' feeling, anything that makes you access the beginners mindset again - along with all the wonder and 'magic' it brings to your work.
about your workings with different god forms.
This is meant as no disparagement on your good self, but I really hate the term 'godforms'. As far as I'm aware, the origin of the term comes from the Golden Dawn and refers specifically to physical body postures adopted by practitioners to align them with the God or Goddess of their choosing. For example, adopting the posture of Horus in an Egyptian hieroglyph as an aspect of invocational work. (If I have my facts wrong here, please correct me). The term has since become a kind of 'sanitised' substitute for God or Goddess that to me seems to indicate on some level that you don't 'really' believe in the objective reality of the entities you're dealing with, but consider them as something along the lines of archetypal forms found in the collective unconsciousness rather than independent beings with their own interests and agendas.
My position on the psychological model of magick, is that whilst it's a workable paradigm to apply to what you're doing, and can be useful for discussing your bizarre practices in a rational manner with people, it can actually be a bit of an obstruction for certain aspects of magick. Particularly for entity work, as you're effectively making a denial of the reality of the entities your dealing with, if you talk about them in terms of aspects of the self/unconscious mind. I see this as a kind of psychological safety net/comfort zone which can sometimes actively prevent you from getting to the wilder scarier edges of magickal practice, which is where the most interesting things generally start to happen.
Having got the rant out of the way, the best piece advice I could give anyone about entity/spirit work is that it's all about relationships, personal relationships between you and other independent beings. Therefore, consider how you would treat a powerful human being, for instance a martial arts master or Mafia Don, and make this the baseline level of behaviour for interaction. If you're willing to accept that these entities are real, then by definition they should not be at your beck and call, and they certainly don't owe you anything just because you're smart enough to figure out how to contact them. Be polite and courteous. The close study of a book on corporate negotiation could serve as a more effective guide to entity work that the Lesser Key of Solomon. Don't rush into anything unprepared, and try to respond positively and creatively if anything doesn't go according to plan. |
