STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:17 / 19.01.03
Hour 12- Goldsmith's College, London

Nice understated opening- looped radio-ey stuff, before a cool rumble slips in underneath. Somewhere in the background I think I can hear Gen, swamped by noises this time more atmospheric than in-yer-face, but still damn loud. I'm trying to imagine the movie this would be a soundtrack for.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:29 / 19.01.03
This one's definitely more in a "Hamburger Lady" vein... a low pulse with echoed analogue sweeps across the top...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:30 / 19.01.03
Infact, this now IS "Hamburger Lady".

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:14 / 20.01.03
That was probably, so far, the most "typical"-sounding hour, even ending with a brief snatch of "United" (which I think was being played over the PA as people were leaving. Following "Hamburger Lady" it got seriously spooky- the chain-swallowing guy was back, accompanied by a rather sinister-sounding Northern landlady who I swear was asking about cheese. Police radio and general mayhem all added to the fun.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
11:10 / 20.01.03
I'm now half-way through. Future highlights (seeing as how I'm not working this week) will be doing an hour with the assistance of ketamine. (I have the remains of a wrap from ages ago, I figure I'll never be doing K again as it's not on my list of favourite drugs, to say the least, I may as well put it to some use.)

My brain hasn't melted yet, but my ears are fucked, and I think the headphones I bought just before Hour 1 may be on the way out.

I need some Discipline.

Our Lady of The Two Towers
11:28 / 20.01.03
You've said a lot about what's been happening, what do you think about the quality of the material? I've never knowingly listened to any Throb or Psychic TV stuff. Is it good, or are there sections which are just mastabatory? Have your chakras started opening yet.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
11:40 / 20.01.03
Sound-quality wise, it's been way better than I thought it would be. In terms of mental state... it varies. Last night's (hour 12) I had no idea at any point, despite being at work and actually doing stuff while it was on, how long it had been on. The couple I've tried on public transport, time hasn't been an issue, visuals have.

Hours 11 and 9, I think, have been the ones that have brought me closest to disassociation. But, I don't think I've gone far enough in that vein. This week (while not at work) I intend to try more mental responses. So... ketamine, and possibly salvia, if I find my good bong.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
11:43 / 20.01.03
Oh, just re-read yr post, Flowers (or whatever would be a good abbreviation).
Most of it is masturbatory. It's pretty much all improvised, and surely improvisation is the musical circle jerk?

It's a very good wank, though, I hasten to add. Probably not a good place to start if you wanna just hear a good selection of TG stuff, however.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
05:51 / 21.01.03
Sorry- didn't manage one last night- finished work for the week and slept from about 4 until about now. Will do another at some point today- hopefully 2.

Hattie's Kitchen
10:50 / 21.01.03
You're a trooper Stoatie, keep 'em coming...

.
11:41 / 21.01.03
Did you just say you were going to listen to Throbbing Gristle on ketamine???

Hattie's Kitchen
11:52 / 21.01.03
/threadrot/ ...however, i'm so glad I don't sit next to you in work anymore.../threadrot/

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
17:20 / 21.01.03
iivix- yes, it's a definite possibility.

Hattie- lol! I've had complaints...

Hour 13- Industrial Training College, Wakefield

I've decided to go for a different approach this time- TG as housework music. I'm smoking some nice grass, and attempting to tidy. Gen's not making it easy, burbling away like a mad thing... "There's been a death in the family" he begins, before going off on a mad burblefrenzy. (And I'm sure he just said "hey nonny no", but probably not. He's going on about Cabaret Voltaire now, only it sounds like he's up a mountain. This is making me feel physically cold now. Odd.)

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
17:36 / 21.01.03
This is classic TG. "Hamburger Lady"'s just arrived again, but until now I felt like my entire body had been re-threaded with thin wires, and there was a current going through it.

And funnily enough, TG don't make great tidying music. I have moved precisely NO things since starting the CD.

And while not as good as the previous version of "Hamburger Lady"... vocally, this is the more harrowing of the two. And now it's just become very low-key and scary .

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
17:50 / 21.01.03
Now "Slug Bait"... it's like a Greatest Hits show! They must have been feeling particularly accommodating that night.

Nasty, nasty version of "Slug Bait" though... me impressed.

Still no tidying.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
17:59 / 21.01.03
Whoah. One of those rare TG moments... a piece that wouldn't be amiss on a Coil, Psychick TV, or Chris & Cosey album... all at once!

reFLUX
21:23 / 21.01.03
am i right in thinking TG recorded ALL their shows? if so is this all of them, sureley they did more than 24 shows?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
07:32 / 22.01.03
It's not all of them... there's a couple the masters have been destroyed (so they've been replaced with other ones) and various others have been released individually on stuff like "TGCD1" and "Grief".

The Natural Way
09:18 / 22.01.03
I like this - I think this is a very good idea. I like you, Mao - you can take drugs I can't.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
15:52 / 24.01.03
If anyone's wondering... I haven't given up. I have issues of a domestic nature at the moment, meaning I CAN'T GET AN HOUR TO JUST SIT AND LISTEN TO MUSIC WITHOUT INTERRUPTION!!! (which vexes me somewhat, as my irrational use of capitals may indicate). Rest assured, if the situation continues over the weekend, I'll try to catch up by doing 3+ hours a night when I'm back at work. And I'm definitely saving an hour for the ketamine thing.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:01 / 27.01.03
Back with Hour 14- Film-Makers' Co-Op, London

In a similar vein to #13, so far, except it's just gone into overdrive. It's kind of like parts of "Heathen Earth", but with more pulsey bass and less percussive loops.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:20 / 27.01.03
Another stonking "Hamburger Lady"- this one a bit more stripped-down and sinister rather than downright scary. Now we've gone rhythmic, with some high-end string-scraping improv. I'm actually tapping my feet.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:30 / 27.01.03
Now Gen's shouting incoherently again... oh, he's now sounding distant, and some crunchy noises have come on over the swooshes and echoes that keep coming and going.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:32 / 27.01.03
Oh shit... it's the scary landlady again. For some reason she scares the shit out of me.

Brigade du jour
22:47 / 27.01.03
jesus Stoatie, aren't you finished yet? what are you, at work or something? heh heh heh me so funny

bjacques
00:14 / 28.01.03
Yeah! Cheeseburger lady, cheeseburger lady...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:15 / 28.01.03
Hour 15- Cryptic Club, London

Full on TG-in-noise-improv mode, strangely enough starting with Gen introducing the band and a bloke buying a train ticket!

Soon, of course, this affability is gone- Gen's bonhomie turns into a drone on the boredom of urban life ending in screams.
Three-quarters of the way through now, and the benign tape loops have given way to stuff about bio-containment (strangely topical right now) and "disturbingly unidentifiable" snatches of spoken word.

Finished now- that was one of the more "coherent" discs so far, working as a whole piece.

Goodness Gracious Meme
12:51 / 29.01.03
Wow. This is really interesting.... keep 'em coming, Stoats.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:12 / 30.01.03
Hour 16- Centro Iberico, London
This one's definitely throbbing...
a very abstract version of "Persuasion" now, with Gen's vocals Gristle-ised and a very ominous bass pulse.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:21 / 30.01.03
Now we've got a rhythmic cacophony of high-end frequencies.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:34 / 30.01.03
Now Gen's really going for it on a truly noise-tastic What A Day.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:55 / 30.01.03
He's just burst into "Hello, Hello, Who's Your Ladyfriend". Marvellous.

Goodness Gracious Meme
14:44 / 31.01.03
off topic, but thought I'd let you know...

In the middle of a feverish dream last night, Stoats pops up, still listening to TG. I give him a huge Bagpuss and he tells me all about the last TG album.

*shrugs shoulders*

Jack The Bodiless
21:59 / 31.01.03
That's really odd.

Woken up at four this morning by spooks, who can't sleep due to jet lag. Still had remnants of a dream going through my head in which stoatie turned up, listening to TG (Throbbing Gristle), at TG (Torture Garden), for a Barbemeet. His hair was Bagpuss-striped.

Dude... your brain may not be melting yet, but you're certainly melting ours...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:14 / 31.01.03
That's truly bizarre. More tonight.
