Help: What Is The Song In The Adaptation TV Ad?

It's just that simple - every time I see that ad on television, it kills me because a) it sounds great and b) I know that I know it, but can't place it for the life of me. I've been looking all around the net, but I just can't find the answer. Do you know? I don't remember it being in the film, by the way. It's definitely not "Happy Together"!

The only trailer I've seen has Under Pressure so I'm not going to be much help. Maybe this thread will.

can you hum a few bars?

No, I'm not talking about the one with "Under Pressure" - the one I'm talking about is kinda britpoppy, in an early David Bowie sort of way. It wouldn't really shock me if it was someone like Supergrass or something.

I really doubt it.

Hey, VM is using ELO in their new topless Beetle ads

Well, give Blue Sky a try, maybe, since only two answers have been offered and one of them has been shot down as a definite no.

As it turns out, it is indeed Electric Light Orchestra's "Mr. Blue Sky". What a beautiful song - all the ELO/Jeff Lynne music I've heard before now was awful, but this is just fabulous. I've got to check out more ELO, I think.

I remember when i first found out that ELO were actually good. It's like a grown-up version of discovering there's no Easter Bunny.

The one I keep seeing uses "Mr. Blue Sky," same one from the VW ads. Isn't it strange how a song can actually find a life solely through advertising? They wouldn't be using it in the movie trailer if it hadn't caught someone's ear in the VW spot. I'm not sure if this annoys me or not.

I heard plenty of ELO as a kid in the 70s, but I don't remember this one at all. In fact, it took me weeks of hearing it on the VW ad before it suddenly hit me (in a real life forehead-slapping "Eureka!" moment) that it was in fact ELO. Then I borrowed a copy of it and listened to the CD a few times and was amazed. I had forgotten about them altogether.

Anyway, I think the song you're looking for is "Mr. Blue Sky" for sure.

this is basically a regularly updated database of music on adverts in the UK, which unfotunately shows how many will sign the piece of paper saying £money£.
hope this helps ttfn
