Can someone explain to me please how a picture of a Bee (as in buzzy buzzy bumble) can signify "Bonaparte", as the engraving on the locket of Bonaparte's brother's wife led our hero Horatio Hornblower doing just that in last nights exciting conclusion to this two part drama?

The French for Bee is "abeille" innit?

It's not a rebus. According to this bee page,

The Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte used the bee as a symbol of immortality and resurrection. Napoleon's red cape is famous for its bee print. Some say the fleur-de-lis was actually a bee.

That part about the fleur-de-lis is rubbish though.

Aw - I was kind of hoping that this thread would be about the great filmmaker Nathanial Hornblower. Too bad.

Cheers Kit-Cat Club. I thought someone had fucked up. You've done a very good job proving otherwise.

I thought the first part of this, and wondered if the slash brigade (Slash Brigade go!) were watching - very few women in this, and the scenes between posh bloke with Welsh name as Hornblower and Paul McGann as his trusty second in command fair crackled with energy.

And he's called 'Hornblower', for fuck's sake. Get writing, Deva!

Erm, does it need to be slashed? I thought that was the point, all lusty, hearty boys together at sea. Isn't that a little like reading 'the Naked Civil Servant' for the gay sub-text?
