WHAT’S YOUR REASON FOR OPPOSING WAR ON IRAQ?
I’m an adult student at the State University of New York at Brockport and a member or our campus anti-war group Brockport Students Against War. I’m trying to increase awareness on the campus, and in the community, about opposition to the war on Iraq. Like many Americans, most of our students see the anti-war movement as something for a handful of radicals or throwbacks from the sixties. I want to bring to light the many reasons why people all over the country and the world oppose war in general and this war in particular. I also feel we need to make connections between the war and individual self-interest. Many people need to have a personal reason to take a stand, or even to ask questions.
I’d like your help. Please tell me your most self-serving reasons to oppose this war, or your most altruistic. Tell me why your economic, political, religious, philosophical or selfish reasons in 60 words or less, then tell me a little something about your self—your first name, age, occupation, location, field of study—whatever you feel comfortable with. I’m hoping for variety. Different things will touch different people.
I’m going to use these statements in flyers, and maybe pamphlets. If you’re interested in seeing what I get, send me and email and I’ll share. And please post and forward this message widely.
The email address is myreasonagainstwar@yahoo.com
Thank you very much.
