Ultimate War #2

I hate the art. The art is all wrong and it's really ruining the story for me. The big fight (I'm being vague cause I don't know how may of you have read it yet) of this issue was a complete mess. The hammer thing would have been so much more awesome if it hadn't been reduced to a little muddled rectangle of a panel! Grrrr!

It's obvious Millar was "talked" into writing this crossover. He's got no love for it.

Agreed. This is a waste of everyone's time.

Actually i believe that Ultimate War was Millar's idea...

I'm not saying Bachalo is a bad artist (even though, personally, I don't like it) I'm saying it's not very Ultimate or windscreen or suited for a crossover of this magnitude. I'm sure he'd be great for more personal stories or things on a smaller scale. It feels like they got the script for a summer blockbuster and a TV crew to make it.

wowowow---what a slice of shiggiddyshiggiddyshiggiddeyshite that was. chris bachalo draws like a man whose fingers i'm about to break. i'll forgive millar nearly anything, but this title really needs to move, and a long way, and fast.

I still find it fascinating that Marvel wasn't able to schedule 2 other titles written by the same author to serve as a proper 'crossover' for this. Sure isn't like those old 'Crisis' and 'Secret Wars' days when they had their entire continuities plugged in there and effected by it (or even all of that genebomd stuff from the 'Oblivion War' that prefaced Morrison's run on 'Doom Patrol').

Still haven't read issue #2 yet. Is it out? I've looked and haven't been able to find it.

No probs with the story (which I enjoyed, but can't help getting the feeling that Wanda and Pietro might be a bit freaked out by the mutant-hunting satellites etc. Millar really needs to think these things through sometimes), but art = not good.

Something of an aside here, but I picked up 'Ultimate X-Men' #27 yesterday, and I think the art by David Finch is the best I've seen in this series so far. It had a kind of scifi feel to it that reminded me of 'New X-men'. Plus it had Jamie Madrox and (I think possibly?) Doug Ramsey. Oh yeah, and it looks like 'Ultimates' #8 comes out next week. Anyway. Back to the war.

I couldn't bring myself to buy the second issue of this book. I know this might be wasting this thread but I couldn't hold this in any longer. The first issue had so little going for it, even down to the awful curl up at the corners cover.

And Chris Bachalo should definitely give up drawing comics. He should work in animation or something, as a designer, the kind of thing Mike Mignola did on "ATLANTIS" would suit him I think.

It's a real shame too because, like you said, he used to be great...

Finch is alraight, but he isn't a patch on Kaare. Beautiful and reads SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well.

yeah i liked the art on this, and madrox probably my fave xman, and meggan [phwoar!] and some cute artie/leach clone. i like how xmen is fleshing out the War story, esp the last ish. hope ultimates next week has been rescripted to fit the current story. but really, sabretooth wouldn't be all chatty like that would he?

Ultimate War is,according to Millar, set after Ultimates #13.

*cue joke about impending eschaton*

Soooo, that means UXM and The Ultimates are in different time zones? Hmmm. Weird.

The Falcon

Yup.

Hardly surprising given the delays on the latter.

Oh, and aliens! for sure in the upcoming Ultimates tale. Aiiiy...

After #13? Yowza. That's gonna be like 3 years from now. So one might assume (at least as far as the 'Ultimates' book is concerned) that by then Giant/Ant Man will be out of the picture, and Banner's going to stay down in that sub-basement for a while.

Sort it out, Millarcock.

I think the blame lies at the feet of Hitch-cock.

Or Hitch's cock, which created a baby. Nice one!

Now, where are my comics?

The Natural Way

No, it doesn't. Banner still caged....no....bad....wrong...

But, yes, in terms of art - Bad Hitchcock.

Que?

p.s. I like Chris Bachalo.
