This is not an original thought, I've stolen it from one of the American tonight shows where someone shared his views on war in the 21st century and impressed me so much with one bit in particular I felt compelled to share it with you lot.

Naturally, being me, I've embellished it a lot and this is in no way a quote...

"War" just doesn't have the same magical tone to it that it once had. Historically presidents and prime ministers would give inspiring speeches to their nations, psyching them up and uniting them into one determined force to be reckoned with. Entire populations would collectively direct their hatred towards the enemy and that hatred would be converted into action. Millions of willing citizens hurtling themselves forward into enemy territories, bayonets fixed, while those at home lived with rations and blackouts and massive community spirit bred victory songs by Vera Lynn.

In the 21st century things are not the same, some guy sitting at a computer scrolling through a list of files in the "Countries" folder, finds the one named "Iraq", selects a menu of options and clicks on the button marked "Delete".

It's hard to get excited.
