I've had it with Christmas

I work in the financial district of downtown Boston. Every day around 2 or 3 I break at the local Starbucks to draw my 'epic comic' which is a huge mess as it's in charcoal and ink. While I sit there I hear patrons squabble over 'no, you bought last time, I'M buying YOU a coffee, and how their business model is really going to work this time and don't tell the investors we're fucked.

This I can block out.

What I cannot block is the insipid Carols and big band music. I mean, I like Sinatra, but an entire album sounds like a guy who can break so many knees in the business he can do whatever the Hell he wants. And worst of all is the Ms. Peggy Lee carol... which if you have not heard, count your ears lucky.

So, I've had it with Christmas. I just want to go home and drink, watch old 60's Dr Who and read comics.

Anyone else?

Not me! I'm lovin it its just soooooo exciting, especially trying to work out who's going to be Christmas no.1, I mean the tension is nearly unbearable but my money is on "Girls Aloud"

*cough*

Nah I'm enjoying it, it gives the people in the office who are usually miserable for no reason a chance to drop the act and cheer up a little. I'm nearly ready to send of my gifts for the family just waiting for Kramer vs. Kramer to arrive (ee-gad) - Wrapped the rest up the other night and made a real mess of it, they look really neat from the front but when you turn them around there's lots of scrunched up paper held in place by tape...

People are happy or at least drunk - come on Mister Six single a little bit of Jingle Bears it'll make you feel a whole lot better...

All we need now is a little snow but there's not much chance of that...

I'm with Bear. Christmas is fooking fantastic. I've got Nat'n'Dean on constant rotation on the stereo, a fuck-off tree in the corner, and all the pressies are wrapped. So what if it's a celebration of consumerist excess? I'm going to enjoy it while I can, seeing as the Government is going to have me working until I die.

And you mean you've never heard Mark E Smith's version of "The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot-uh"?

Piped christmas music is pretty much the only thing I can't take about this season. You can look away from teddy bears dressed as Santa, but the music, you just can't block out.

Is it me or do they play it just slightly too loud, so it can't be ignored? I don't need to be able to hear all the lyrics, thank you. It's supposed to be ambient.

I'm with the bear and Sax - I love it. Though I agree the music can do your head in.

All my presents are wrapped and sitting under my tree, I finish work tomorrow, and I'm feeling very cheery.

I need a tree!! - today has been a total turn around, I pretend that Christmas means nothing to me but its true brothers I love it, feel the Yule Force..Hell even the music doesn't bother me that much its only for a few weeks of the year, its not like music it great the rest of the year.

I even found a deal in Sainburys for a turkey dinner that's ready in just 10 mins, just 10!!

Jingle all the way - brothers (I think falling asleep with Hogan shouting has had some kinda effect on me)

What sort of turkey dinner is ready in 10 minutes? A turkey sandwich?

Im with the hate crowd, and it's nothing to do with my religion either.
i work in a mall and as such, must get the music and the imagary forcibly rammed down my throat every day.
i don't appreciate it.
And if one more customer says "have a nice christmas", I think I'll scream

Oh, you veggies should keep up with meat technology. They've invented all sorts of meat stuff since the last time you had a burger. Self-immolating fowl a speciality.

Every year I have a bland Christmas Dinner at my mum's (turkey loaf), then I go home and get a curry or pad thai and a few ales.

Why is Christmas not like the ones in comics...? For that matter, aside from Kitty Pride, where are the Jews in comics? It's creepy.

My girlfriend was raised Jewish and Catholic, so she gets very confused. We have a very pretty tree and I got her a Lain T-Shirt under it, but she doesn't get it that we don't open them until the 24th.

I like Christmas, lots. Though yesterday I was nearly squished by the sackful of stocking fillers that I had to drag around for 5 hours during my shopping trip before I went to see LotR. And then had to wait an hour for the bus. And then didn't get a seat. And had to listen to this miraculously loud and high pitched child wailing and squalling most of the way home... but yes, I like Christmas.

I'm also with the anti-celebration brigade. I think I'll spend this year in bed, with a glass of whiskey and a copy of Bleak House. Bah, humbug...

I really really love this time of the year, the overblown Christmas celebrations and children's choirs and lights on the trees and giving and receiving presents and the Christmas carols. I really love the happy, sappy Christmas carols. I listen to this tape of Christmas songs that I've heard for every year of my entire life with this awesome version of The Bells of St. Mary's on it (alright, so that's not exactly a Christmas song, but there are jingle bells in it) and Elvis singing "Got no sleigh with reindeer / no sack on my back-- / you're gonna see me comin' / in a big black Cadillac!"

The only time when I came close to being sick of Christmas was when I worked in a department store. Retail crushes the soul enough as it is, but during the holidays, it seems even more repulsive. Goodness, I hated selling junk to people.

Im trying to organize christmas in the middle of a move fraught with problems and a swiftly dwindling timeline, no car and no money. I am stressed to the level where a strong wind could potentially move me to tears.

that said, Ill be goddamn if I let anything ruin my holidays, even the shittiest christmas television commercials Ive ever fucking seen

Two weeks ago I loved Christmas, now I hate it again, I had money two weeks ago but now I'm so in debt I might as well die - why? My stupid friend made me feel guilt about not buying presents for fifteen people and now I have spent, spent, spent all the precious funds I saved. Why can't we buy people oranges instead of shite from Ann Summers?

Plus where are the goddamn carol singers? Huh? They always make me feel happier and there are none. Anywhere.

You can. Oranges are perfectly acceptable gifts. If they're not, then smack the recipient upside the head. It's about the giving. Damnit.

I generally manage to ignore christmas fairly successfully for the most part, so it's not as much of a source of annoyance as it could be.

What i do like about christmas, however, is using the phrases "'tis the season" and "YOU'VE RUINED CHRISTMAS" at any and every available opportunity.

Isn't unlicensed carol singing becoming an offense now? Probably why you haven't heard any while queuing for a permit to video your kids' nativity play...
