The science of superstition

This link was gleaned from a friend, and, yeah, of course it's stuff I think about constantly... so I thought I'd pass it on.

There's this kneejerk part of my brain that says "Of course that's how people who aren't exposed to real magick are going to think about it," but I'm just as much a part of this weird-ass consensual reality as they are, and even when it's hard, I like to look at all sides of what could be going on.

What do you think?

Very interesting! Thanks for the link.

It looks like ritual is ingrained in consciousness even at the intellectual level of a pigeon, and ritual is probably where magickal practices originated. (I like the idea of bee dances as ritual...)
I'm not sure how to draw the line between magick and superstition, ritual and superstition. What is superstition? A judgemental label that devout rationalists put on behaviour that doesn't make sense to them? Is superstition merely magick that didn't work? Magickal practice without the energy/intent that magickians put into ritual?
