Could someone explain me why i can't write in BOLD and Italic, and why i can't use smileys? I mean, where are they?

And how do i get to copy large blocks of someone else's post into my post in BOLD?

You can use bold and italics - Barbelith uses some HTML code for emphasis, so to write in bold use the html codes for bold and italic text, which are <b>this</b> and <i>this</i>. Use the bold tags either side of text you have cut and pasted to quote - there used to be a blockquote function but it no longer exists. This is intended to force people to exerpt text more intelligently.

God knows. Some people do seem to manage them. Used to be that a shortcut like

woudl show a smiley.

And it does! That was colon followed by close bracket, by the way. There are presumably other codes.

They're evil, though, and are rightly treated with contempt by all right-thinking Barbeloids.

The other alternative is to find them on another bulletin board and post them as an image, using the img src= code explained elsewhere, like this:

There's a whole host of the things here.

We tend not to use them here for a number of reasons, mainly that they're damn ugly and if you've made your point clear there's simply no need. They also stick out like a sore thumb in the current board design.

The other problem is that some, like the confused one, throw the text in posts out of whack.

They could do with a redesign if we're going to have them. There are some fairly well-designed smileys out there, but the ones that we've got shortcuts for here are horrible. Black-and-white ones wouldn't look too bad...
