Does anyone else believe The Long Halloween was an insult to the reader, or did you all believe that pretentious deux ex machina ending?

I mean, what other proof do we have that Gilda was indeed Holiday besides Loeb's saying so; in a medium based on pictures, i actually expect to find subtle clues leading to the killer's identity, and a finale that show us where to look and say: 'aw, how did i miss that? it's so obvious!' But instead all we see is a mentally-ill womem grieivng for a husband, saying she did everything aloud in an empty house directed exactly for the reader - i mean, it's normal, a guy kills someone and goes around the house confessing to the walls (not even psychopaths are that sad - they usually send letters to cops)

Now, am i the only one who thinks this is bullshit, or anyone else always feels cheated?

Fraid not; the ending left me with the "oooh, creepy" vibe. Harvey's wife was even more screwed up than him. I see your point, though. I'm wondering what clues were left to point to Gilda (the writer did mention that the mystery could be solved by the reader, right?).

I didn't feel cheated.... the real joy out of LH was, for me, the story and not the "mystery". More geekery than participatory - the relationships between Dent, Bats, and Gordon; the abortive Selina-Bruce romance; the old-scum and new-psychos scrabbling for control. They mystery was just a gimmick, of sorts.

(BTW, you should probably mention spoilers in the thread title. I know, the title is pretty self-explanatory, but it's just good form).
