Boston and NYC

OK, I'm in Boston from Dec 23-Jan 2 and NYC from Jan 2-7. Would be cool to see some of you. Most of my plans are down to the people I'm staying with and stuff but if some of you wanted to join us I don't think there'd be a problem...

Ideas for things to do also good. Any good exhibitions on that I need to check out? Or bands?

I'll post an itinery when I have one, too.

Oh, that sounds great! I don't know Boston terribly well, but I had a wonderful time just walking around the downtown/Boston Common/Back Bay area.

I posted about a New Years' Eve show at Don Hills.

Beyond that, there's a cool exhibit of cabala-inspired art up at the Gagosian in Chelsea, and the dream house is always cool.

Boston is like making a PDA out of a sow's ear.

You'd have a better time shopping online.

That said, I reccomend Cambridge Street in Cambridge... You take the 69 Bus from Harvard toward the mall of sorrows and check out a) home-made ice cream, b) Buckaroo Mercantile where you can get a Hitler driving a car T-Shirt, c) Indian food aplenty, and d) a neat coffee shop if yer into that.

In Harvard Square there is not much left that is not a cellular store or a brand name slave trader, BUT there is Charlies and Shay's which I highly reccomend for a beer and food and Million Year Picnic which is a great comic shop. OH, and there's lots of great CD shops in there too, as well as Kendall Square Cinema and in Brookline, the amazing Coolidge Corner cinema... phew!

Just some suggestions, tho. I've lived here for five years and love it the most (next to Cambridge England) when I'm not avoiding asshole tourists.

Uh, ok. Thanks for that Mister Six. Good thing I'll be staying with folk who actually like the place, then. :] I'm staying around Brookline; already seem fairly booked up. Looking forward to seeing the MIT museum, the Gardner Museum, the DeCordova (espesh the sculpture garden) and the Mapparium. Oh and a cheesy tourist trip to Salem. As for comic shops; I'll be hanging out at Comicopia, since I know the guys there.

As I kinda said in the NYC thread, my friends who I'm staying with have been arranging drink-ups, but I'm not sure exactly when and where, though I'll let you know. I *should* be in NYC on the 2nd. I'll check the threads so I know what's up and hopefully can hook up with you, as long as it doesn't clash with everyone else's plans (I can't please/see everyone, y'know!) If all the gatherings are planned around the East Village, that would make it easier to see everyone, I think (hope).

Well, it's not that I don't like it, it's just that it makes itself hard to like. The T runs when it wants to, the bars close early, the people are usually rude, etc. BUT it has great bookshops and comic stores, cool theaters, etc... And some of my favorite places to eat (You HAVE to go to Christina's ice cream on Cambridge street for Nietzche's Chocolate Ascension).

Ah yes, Comicopia. James Wu is a nice guy. I have mixed feelings about the guy who looks like Harlan Ellison, tho, he's usually mean to James. Saw the Flaming Stars with Mr Wu at my mates' birthday (well he was there and we got him a beer). You can find some amazing stuff there. I got all three graphic novels of the Incal for cover, ferinstance.

Infortunately, the Deli Haus is gone. I loved loved loved that place. You could get a beer, some sweet potato fries and horseradish sause, and fart away reading comics that always seemed to be lying around.

V Sad that it's gone.

The Boston Birthday / Holiday Celebration Gathering Drink-Up Extravaganza will be held on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28.

Ask James at Comicopia (though he'll be a stressbunny!) or PM me for details (though I may only check messages late in the day), I guess.

I'm a Boston resident but I'll be gone until New Year's Eve. If you want to hang out then or on the 1st I'd be glad to show you around town. There is also going to be a brilliant party in Arlington on New Year's Eve. If you're interested send me an email and I'll forward the info. I hope you have good luck in town. We're not all cranky puritanical hypocrite bastards.
