Ok. This is probably going to be a new concept for most of you, but there are these things called 'wikis' - basically they amount to web pages or sets of web pages that anyone can go and edit and play with. They keep track of the changes so people can go back to something that was better if they want to. They're completely community driven, totally decentralised and a right bugger to control so they're not good for everything, but they might be IDEAL for an anarchist group who are attempting to assemble a creative work on the fly...

So here you go - The Barbelith FAQ wiki designed purely for us all to work together to assemble a useful guide to this site, its history and its uses. If this works well, then we might extend it in other areas. If it doesn't, then we'll probably abandon it. But I think it could actually do us quite some good...

It looks initially quite scary, but it's really not. CHeck out the example one over at metafilter that I've linked to, read the two files linked to from there on Wikis and text formatting and then come back and see what I've done in the meantime. When you're ready to make a contribution, click on edit this page and get stuck in...

I've stuck in some basic starting points, which should make the whole experience a little easier to get going with... We'll probably need someone to assemble a bit of a structure for the whole thing at some point... But I'll leave that to emerge naturally through the interactions of a great many dedicated minds working together...

Very nice, Tom. Possibly a very good idea, but I suppose that we shall see, shant we?...

This is very interesting. I'll have a proper look tonight, when I've got more time and am less at work...

Er... if you log in you end up with a page dedicated to your username. I take it that you don't want people doing this, but have us put our names at start of whatever we contribute (as JF, Haus and grant have) so that there's some kind of accountability for whatever we write?

Or not?

DOn't worry too much about attribution - just when you find a page that you don't think is up to muster or could be made clearer or simpler or more right, then leap in and have a go. Or just add more information if you think it needs it. Or just reorganise the whole thing if you want... Hopefully it'll kind of assume a vaguely well organised space eventually...

Yeah, I wonder if all attributions should be erased and just replaced with a line of
----
which I've learned makes a nice page divider once saved. Thank you wiki automation elves!
