this. will. not. stand.

...so the story goes like this: as my bloggy buddies will know, i am currently in final prep for my very own club nite by the sea - in a town where people actually attend club nites with some degree of enthusiasm and abandon.

the promo photos produced for this project were modelled on a nightvision/horror movie kind of look. club kid zombies on the beach. at nite. anyway, somebody said i looked gothy. which made me decide it's time for a revamp.

here's my plan: i already have immense skill with eyeliner and mascara, a punk rock physique, and a complete absence of shame. now i wish to supplement this with a more femme/punk slant.

essentially - this means more colour. i'm looking toward a kind of minimalist glam, i guess - a 21st century dandy. um - from the future. or space. or both. maybe a sexy robot.

the suggestion box is open...

is this specifically 'what makeup looks good on boys?'? or are you just looking for tips in general that would probably work across genders?

former or latter, either one works for me. be *creative*.

really is surprising how little of it there is out there... sure, designers have flirted with it on the catwalks, there are music subcultures that employ it as badge of difference (but are often pretty rigid in application)... superhero comics and sci-fi stuff (esp cyberpunk/manga) offer some light at the end of the tunnel - but i'm not looking to go borg...

Oh, you exotic little thing you...

you might be best off checking out pop videos for inspiration... it's probably a good place to get the kind of look you're thinking about, maybe check out some Chris Cunningham stuff - your 'minimalist glam/sexy robots' slant sounds very CC, puts me in mind of the 'all is full of love' video...

check out the top-right-hand still here - metallic/white face/silvery lips and black eyes - that the kind of thing?

do you want retro-futuristic or stuff that actually looks new and shiny?

Oh, and a weekend spent with David Bowie album covers probably wouldn't go amiss. Does it ever?

oh, and if you want a hand, a friend of a friend is a theatrical make-up person...

I confess that using colours isn't my forte, but I do find Caboodles cosmetics makes GREAT coloured gel glitter for your eyes. If you used touches of say, the purple kind, "Cyber Space" it's called, around your eyes, that would look neat. Colour AND glitter. Or there's coloured hair-gel glitter that you could use, even though that's not technically makeup. It looks particularly nifty on black hair I find.
Wet N' Wild cosmetics also has a vast array of coloured glittery eyeshadows that look amazing. There's also coloured mascara if you wanted to go that route. Or false coloured eyelashes. They can be pretty outrageous but you never know. I'd just hit the makeup aisle and see what you find there. Experimentation is your friend.
